Chandra Bhudana Pranaina


“Chandra” means “moon” bhida “- root,” Bhedana “means to penetrate, pass through anything. The Chandra Pranayama Bhedana all breaths are performed through the left nostril and all exhalations – through the right. Nerve on the left side is called the Ida Nadi and Nadi Kandra. Nerve on the right side of the nose called the Pingala Nadi or Surya Nadi. Pranic energy during inhalation passes through the Ida Nadi and Chandra, and during exhalation – through Pingala or Surya Nadi.


The energy in the right channel is considered to be cold, lunar ( “Chandra” in Sanskrit means “the moon”). When this channel is active, the person becomes prone to introspection, meditation, contemplation. Technique Bhedana Chandra Pranayama


  • Starting position – any comfortable meditative posture: Siddhasana , Virasana or Padmasana

  • Close your eyes and take a look inside.

  • Breathing occurs through the left nostril.

  • After completion of the inhalation, pressing your thumb gently close your left nostril. Now both nostrils closed. Wait one second.

  • Now partially loosen the pressure on the right nostril and exhale through the right nostril. Exhalation should be slow, steady and complete.

  • This is one cycle. Do 8-10 of these cycles.


Features of the Chandra Pranayama Bhedana


  • At that time, when the fingers are in the nose to make their pressure is not shifted in the direction of the nasal septum when the left nostril is closed to the partition did not move to the right, and when the right nostril closed, did not move to the left.

  • You should not remove the thumb or fingers of the nostrils, which is half open;
