Bikram Choudhury was born in Calcutta in 1946 and in 4 years started taking yoga classes in one of the most famous Indian teachers – Bishnu Ghosh. Bikram practiced yoga for 6 hours per day. At the age of 13 he won the national championship in Indian yoga. At age 18 Bikram suffered a knee injury and the doctors say that he will never again be able to stand on its feet, but Bikram returned to school Bishnu Ghosh and 6 months was completely healthy.
Ghosh then blessed the opening of Bikram yoga schools in India and Japan, and later around the world. Bikram began to develop its own system of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises that are suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners. In 1973, Bikram moved to America at the invitation of President Nixon, which he cured by the technique of severe thrombophlebitis. From this point of Bikram began to spread its unique method of yoga all over the world.
Bikram Choudhury is the founder of «Yoga College of India», located in Los Angeles, USA. To date, it has more than 1,000 licensed international schools.
